Clear acne scars*

Acne scars are difficult to clear up. Getting rid of acne scars is as difficult as getting rid of wrinkles. Oddly enough, there are not as many products out there for acne scars as there are anti aging products. You might ask yourself, ‘what can I do?’.

How many of you had mothers who admonished them not to pick at their pimples because of scarring? Well, she was partly right. Picking at pimples does cause scarring, plus they can also lead to infection. Scarring occurs with cystic acne irregardless of picking at it.

A popular option for clearing acne scars is with laser resurfacing. Unfortunately, it can have some serious side effects. Although these can typically be easily treated, they are very annoying and might not be worth it.

This sometimes can make the acne worse as the tramatized skin causes the oil glands to oversecrete. You may see “milia” which is small white bumps that can pop up when laser resurfacing is applied to the skin. However, these can be treated.

There are also over the counter products available which can help to shrink the size of pores which might heal clear acne scars. Microdermabrasion is another option available for acne scarring. You will find that it uses fine crystals to assist in clearing up dead skin cells. It also speeds up skin cell turnover. You can think of it as sandblasting. You can utilize home microdermabrasion sets.  However, they tend to act more like exfoliators.

Another popular option to clear acne scars is chemical peels. There are professional chemical peels found in doctor’s offices and there are home verisons of it. It takes off the top layer of your skin.  It is hoped the next layer of skin is smoother. It also helps to tighten your skin and pores. There are some harsh chemical peels that will seem like being burned.

Of late, using stretch mark cream has been used to clear acne scars. This has not been medically proven to work, however, many testify to its effectiveness.

Doctors recommend products that contain Retinol, glycolic acid, and alpha hydroxy acid for ways to clear acne scars. It is interesting to note that these same common ingredients are found in many anti-aging products as well.

Some home remedies for clearing scars include using tomatoes in a paste that can be applied to your face once a week. There is no medical research on this but it has been done by many people who claim success with it. For reducing the appearance of acne scars use daily the following: tea tree oil, lemon juice, ice cubes and aloe vera gel. Rosehip Seed Oil has also had some success. It is meant to be applied topically twice a day until a reduction of the acne scars can be viewed.
